ICT and the Digital Economy PS Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui on Monday oversaw the official opening of an Interministerial Heads of ICT Mid-term Review Workshop on Digitalization of Government Services.

PS Tanui underscored the crucial role of digital infrastructure which is essential for facilitating the Digital Superhighway, including the National Optic Fiber Backbone Infrastructure (NOFBI) project.

He pointed out that the setting up of Digital Hubs and Free Public WIFI hotspots is aimed at fostering digital skills, supporting the digital economy and empowering Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.

Eng. Tanui stated that the establishment of robust Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) policies is crucial in guiding growth in the digital landscape.

“As we embark on digitalization, building trust with the people we serve is imperative. This involves safeguarding the data we possess through robust data protection measures,” noted Eng. Tanui.

He further called on the ICT Heads to help spearhead the digitalization process in their Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA).

The three day workshop which is been held at a Naivasha’s hotel is aimed at streamlining the implementation of the Digital Superhighway which is one of the government’s four key pillars.

The Kenya Digital Superhighway project is aimed at creating 25, 000 public WI-FI hotspots and Digital Village hubs in each of the Country’s 1,450 wards.
