More than 999,000 farmers across the country were the happy recipients of the subsided fertilizers in the year 2023 alone. Farmers in the last year were delighted when the President’s promise of more affordable fertilizer was realized.

Previously, farmers in the country had lamented over parting with about 7,500 shillings for a 50 bag of fertilizer.

In the past year, however, the prices fell to 2500/- shilling for a 50kg bag making fertilizers very affordable.

At the start of this month, the Agriculture CS toured Makueni, Meru and Nyandarua Counties where he began the 2024 fertilizers distribution.

According to the commitments the Ministry of Agriculture made at the recently concluded Government Roadshow, the Ministry hopes more farmers will comply with the call for farmers’ registration which will aid in the delivery of fertilizers.

The country enjoyed a bountiful harvest in the year 2023 as a direct result, with the country harvesting over 44 Million bags of maize, a 29% increase from the previous year’s harvest of 34 Million bags.

Providing farmers with more affordable of the very necessary fertilizers is President Ruto’s kept promise of increasing the country’s agricultural activity for both economic growth and food security.
