The Cabinet Secretary to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ababu Namwamba, while attending the recently held Kalasha Awards has reiterated the government’s commitment to providing a robust legislative framework for the film industry, one that will nurture talent, facilitate growth, and provide incentives for innovation.

Hon. Namwamba said that his ministry is on the forefront, fostering valuable partnerships locally, regionally, and globally to elevate Kenya’s creative space and transform it into a profitable industry.

“Just recently, we signed co-production agreements with the South African and Chinese governments  to enhance our film sector, and have also entered into partnership with the Invention Studios which will see local production showcased globally,” he quipped.

The CS highlighted the implementation of a structured rewards system to recognize and appreciate artists who enrich our lives through their work, as a testament to the government’s commitment.

CS Ababu urged the media to prioritize local content over foreign, emphasizing the superior quality of Kenyan content compared to foreign productions.

Speaking at the 13th Edition of the Kalasha International Film and TV Awards, 2024, CS Ababu praised the awards for their integrity and recognition, emphasizing how they have opened doors for talented Kenyans to explore global opportunities.

He highlighted the economic prospects of the film industry in job creation, cultural identity formation, and fostering creativity, urging everyone to acknowledge the impressive storytelling skills of Kenyan filmmakers that resonate deeply with our society.
