Tourism CS Alfred Mutua has concluded his tour of Kwale County which is part of the government and the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to uncover Kenya’s hidden tourism treasures.
The Cabinet Secretary has also toured Kitui and Busia counties in the past two weeks for the same mission.
Tourism is vital for economic growth, offering employment opportunities, revenue generation, and cultural exchange.
Hon. Mutua’s tour encompassed numerous potential tourist attractions, which the Ministry of Tourism pledges to rejuvenate to attract more visitors and generate employment opportunities.
Key commitments include supporting the rehabilitation of the Kwale tourist market and the construction of the Kwale Heritage and Convention Centre.
The government has also expressed the commitment to establish a modern recreation facility along the historic Kongo beach, blending the preservation of the area’s history with contemporary amenities.
The CS also stated that the government will lend its support to the creation of cultural centers and heritage sites, vital for preserving and showcasing Kwale County’s diverse traditions and history.
The government, as Hon. Mutua said, is keen on improving infrastructure accessibility to tourist sites.
“Moreover, I committed to engaging relevant government agencies to streamline bureaucratic processes, particularly for destination weddings in Diani. Simplifying administrative procedures will encourage couples to choose Diani as their wedding destination, thereby boosting tourism and fostering economic growth in the region”, said CS Mutua.
