H.E President Ruto yesterday commissioned the Kiptogot-Kolongolo Water Project that is expcted to serve more than 150,000 people in Kaptega, Kiptogot, Twiga, Chorlim, Endebess, Kwanza, Kapkoi, Kapomboi, Kobos and Kolongolo, Endebess, Trans-Nzoia County.

The water project is under the Kenya Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Program. Kiptogot-Kolongolo water project is expected to serve 200,000 people by the year 2040. The areas the project will serve include both Kwanza and Endebbes sub-counties.

The water supply covers an area of 73 KM ranging from 100 to 400 diameter. The project is being implemented by CRWWDA in the jurisdiction of LVNWWDA.

The installed tanks are 7 with a total capacity of 2900 cubic meters of water with 170KM proposed pipeline to be implemented. In the envisioned plan, the last mile connection will serve 5000 new customers with 52 water kiosks.

The Kiptogot-Kolongolo water project has taken the taxpayers 1’5 Billion with capacity to serve areas such as Mubere with capacity of 2300 cubic meters of water, Kaptega with capacity of 11250 cubic meters of water. By and large, the water coverage will reach Endebbes, Kolongolo, Mowlem and Kwanza.

The government has already secured 400 Million Shillings to complete the last mile connection and is looking for 1.1 Billion Shillings to increase water coverage in the county.

Access to clean water is a key foundation of Primary health care, good health and gender equity.

The President was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Hon Zachariah Njeru EGH and the Principal Secretary State Department for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir, CBS and other leaders from both the National and County government of Trans Nzoia.
