Hon. Malonza together with CS Moses Kuria led the Government Performance and Delivery Roadshow for the Ministry of EAC, ASALs, and Regional Development, we reviewed the performance and delivery of programs and projects in my ministry in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

In the past 16 months, the Ministry has realized considerable achievements with a great impact on the lives of Kenyans.

Within this period, the value of Kenyan exports to the EAC increased by 12.4%. The country’s imports also fell by 3.2%.

The Kenyan market saw an expansion led by the admission of the Federal Republic of Somalia into the East African Community. This grew the market by about 12 Million people. This expanded the regional market from 301 million people to a population of 313 Million.

The Ministry successfully trained 1066 MSMEs on EAC Simplified Trade Regime (STR) to enhance their participation in EAC Cross-Border Trade.

A 5% growth was witnessed due to the reduction of Non-Tariff Barriers from 267 to 251, which facilitated the free movement of goods and services.

At the onset of the El-Nino crisis, the ministry efficiently responded to humanitarian emergencies and coordinated ASALs development programs aimed at improving the livelihoods of citizens. The Ministry provided food for more than 4.4 Million Kenyans after the drought caused by the prolonged El-Nino rains.

In the coming year, the Ministry of EAC made a commitment to roll out a Hunger Safety Net Program that give Kenyans a monthly payment of 2,700 Shillings per household.

CS Malonza and officials from her ministry also made a commitment to develop the Relief Assistance Management Information System, transform the Regional Development Authority into economic drivers through Public Private Partnership as well as Develop MSMEs through a review of the EAC simplified trade regime and value chain development.

With Kenya Kwanza Government’s mantra of delivering as one, CS Malonza and the Ministry noted possible areas of synergy within ministries to better serve Kenyans and adopted a new tool to better measure Kenya Kwanza’s delivery success.
