The national tree-growing day is a component of the government’s plan to plant 15 billion trees by 2032 in order to protect the nation from the catastrophic effects of climate change and boost the country’s forest cover from the current 12% to 30%.

Kenyans today took to social media to showcase the many trees planted all over the country, following in the example of President Ruto, was led the nationwide exercise from Kiu Wetlands in Makueni.

“Conservation of the environment is the urgent and collective responsibility of our time,” – Said President Ruto when he met a group of Kiambani Primary School pupils who have taken steps to preserve their region by planting trees.

The day was marked with much success with the various ministries as well as state agencies as well as private companies joining in the exercise.

The Ministry of Roads led by the CS and PS led exercises in Mombasa and Homabay respectively that saw over 50,000 seedlings planted.

Together with the country government of Samburu, Hon. Mithika of Agriculture led an exercise that saw over 10,000 seedlings planted.

The National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee NC4 is on location at Ondiri Wetlands in Kikuyu, Kiambu County with a target to plant 1,000 tree seedlings, while Private Security Regulatory Authority staff and private security guards from SGA Security participated in the exercise at The  Bomas of Kenya where 1,000 tree seedlings were planted.

NACADA Kenya saw the staff plant over 4,855 tree seedlings at their various offices countrywide.

Elsewhere, Mr. Charles Owino, Chairperson, Kenya Institute of Mass Communication and Dr. Leah Kasera from the Office of Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service represented the Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria during the planting of 10,000 trees at Siaya Institute of Technology.

In Elgeyo Marakwet, Hon. Nakumincha of Health underscored her Ministry’s plan to plant at least 2.5 Million trees annually. With her team, they made a significant achievement with the planting of 70,000 trees in the region, a pivotal step in environmental and soil protection.

In Makueni, H.E DP Gachagua congratulated the President for the leading the nation on this monumental day.

“This is a step to a greater Kenya,  to the best World we all live in and love, to give to our future generation safely,” – H.E Gachagua.
