The government of Kenya will implement the health insurance levy from March 1st. This is according to President William Ruto who says The Social Health Insurance Act and other laws to ensure Universal Healthcare Coverage are already undergoing public participation.

Speaking in Gatanga constituency on Thursday, Ruto said his government was keen on providing universal and affordable healthcare to all Kenyans.

”We are changing the healthcare system so that people can stop selling their land to pay for hospital fees. We now have four new health laws. Even now, public participation is ongoing on how they will be implemented from March 1st, God willing,” President Ruto said.

Dental Health Act 2022, Primary Health Care Act 2023, Facility Improvement Facility Act 2023, and the Social Health Insurance Act 2023 are the new laws expected to take effect next month.

The Head of State added that the new SHIF will see low-income earners pay a monthly contribution of KSh 300, down from KSh 500 as with the previous NHIF.
