Speaking at Inooro Tv’s Kiririmbi Show recently, H.E President Ruto spoke in great detail his dreams and hopes for Kenya are all based on first and foremost, bettering the lives of the common Mwananchi on the ground level. This involves drastic reforms in the agricultural sector, improving sectors such as the tourism sector, building more roads, dams and healthcare facilities, recruiting more teachers and much more.

At the foundation stone laying service at ACK St. James Church in Kiambu, the president told Kiambu residents that the government seeks to modernize current markets as well as build more all over the country. Plans to build between 400 and 500 markets across the country are underway.

The President has stated on numerous occasions that creating the safe and more spaces for traders in the country is tied to the economic growth of all Kenyans. These markets will provide many farmers with accessible locations to sell their produce. With the predicted increase in farm yields this upcoming harvest, many farmers will have a surplus of foodstuff which they will be hoping to sell to many Kenyans. The current state of markets is limiting too many traders who rely on selling groceries for livelihood. Many Mama Mboga have been forced to sell their wares at roadsides and unsafe outdoor spaces. This not only endanger their lives but also puts their buyers at risk of buying contaminated foodstuff.

Improving current markets as well as building many other spacious and modernized markets all over the country is meant to provide these hardworking Kenyans with dignified spaces to showcase their wares. More markets will also shield Kenyans from limited options in sellers which leads to high prices of food items. More spaces will mean more diverse farmers will have an avenue to sell their wares. This will greatly contribute to Kenyans’ healthy living and nutrition.

President Ruto’s Hustler Fund which provides capital to both individual business people and small groups, is at its heart, meant for small traders such as the market vendors. Giving them accessible and affordable borrowing is meant to provide them with capital to improve their business. The ability to borrow and receive funds in times of emergencies such as depleted stock in the middle of the day is a means to improving lives at a bottoms-up level.

Building more markets across the country, as the president stated in Kiambu, will also provide counties with more revenue. Hence driving county government to better service provisions for the citizens they serve.

The Kenya Kwanza and President Ruto’s BETA Plan is plan to better Kenyans lives economically, mentally as experts have said that a healthy working environment is good for one’s mental health, physically, by providing a surplus food supply and socially. Markets have been known as one of the most versatile places, meant for Kenyans to not just trade but also engage with fellow Kenyans from all walks of life, continuing cultural integration.
