The National Assembly on Thursday approved the deployment of 1,000 Kenyan police officers to Haiti, leaving the matter to the Senate for further deliberations.

The motion, tabled by parliament’s Committee on Administration and Internal Security approved the government request for sending the security officers as violence escalated in Haiti.

Burundi, Chad, Senegal, Jamaica and Belize have all pledged troops for the multinational mission which could cost more than $230 Million.
