Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of the Deputy President, has launched a vigorous campaign against alcohol and drugs in schools. Recognizing the critical need to address drug abuse among young people, Pastor Dorcas has taken her advocacy to educational institutions, aiming to prevent early recruitment into destructive behaviors.

During a visit to Kangaru High School in Embu town, Pastor Dorcas addressed a gathering of more than 1,600 students, including newly enrolled form one students. She emphasized the importance of educating students about the perils of drug abuse before they fall victim to its allure. “Learning institutions are a strategic location to advocate against drugs before teens are recruited into destructive behaviors,” Pastor Dorcas stated.

The event featured a talk by a Nacada official, who highlighted the immediate and long-term dangers of alcohol, drugs, and substances. Deputy Governor Justus Mugo also joined the cause, warning students about the intense recruitment into drugs in higher education institutions. “Let us prepare and inform our children so that they can face life with confidence, determination, and focus. Such forums will inform you about the dangers of drugs, and you can say no and focus on your life,” Mugo urged.

Embu County MP Pamela Njoki and MP Manyatta John Mukunji also lent their voices to the cause, urging students to prioritize education and reject drugs. “Drugs and education cannot walk together,” Njoki emphasized.

Pastor Dorcas has also visited other schools, including Dagoretti High, Mutuini Secondary, Tudor Boys Secondary, Narok Boys High School, Kagumo High, and Alliance High and Girls Schools, furthering her anti-drug campaign. This initiative is poised to make a significant impact in steering young people away from the dangers of substance abuse.
