The long awaited short rains are finally here which is why the government through local leaderships and chiefs, will be distributing tree seedlings to Kenyans.

CS for Ministry of Environment, Hon. Soipan Tuya has stated that the government is determined to reach the 15 billion tress goal for the next season, assuring Kenyans that her ministry will ensure availability of tree seedlings at chief’s level. Kenyans have been promised that they will be able to walk into their local chief’s office and collect seedlings to plant.

Hon. Tuya said that the tree growing targets the Kenya Kwanza government have set touch on each and every individual Kenyan. The government has set targets on the number of trees that each Kenyan is expected to grow.

The CS has also explained that the government is seeking to ensure that out of the trees to be planted during this initiative, 30% of them will be fruits and fonder. Kenya has proven to be a fruits haven, with many Kenyans bearing witness to all kinds of fruits in their farms.

The fruit species will serve Kenya’s economic and food security needs.

The 15 billion national tree growing and ecosystem restoration program strategy identifies road reserves and wayleaves as potential sites for planting trees in an intervention christened, ‘greening infrastructure’. Every Kenyan has a role to play in the implementation of the 15 billion national tree growing.
