President William Ruto, on Tuesday, October 31, hosted a grand State Banquet at State House, Nairobi, in honor of King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s visit.

During his address, President Ruto highlighted the profound achievements marking the six-decade-long bilateral relationship between Kenya and the United Kingdom. He commended King Charles III for his climate leadership and commitment to environmental conservation.

President Ruto expressed his hope that this visit, emphasizing community, sustainability, and innovation, would not only enhance Kenya-UK relations but also strengthen the Commonwealth’s mission to build a development-oriented global community.

King Charles III, who expressed his delight at returning to Kenya, reminisced about his family’s fondness for the country. He referred to his mother’s affection for Kenya, his son’s proposal to his wife in Mt. Kenya, and his first visit to Kenya in 1971.

Recognizing the painful episodes in their shared history, King Charles III emphasized the importance of acknowledging past wrongs. He expressed his desire to deepen his understanding of the injustices and meet individuals who were profoundly affected by those actions, specifically the unjustifiable violence against Kenyans during their fight for independence.
