President William Ruto officially inaugurated the Mutumbu ICT Hub as part of the groundbreaking Konza Digital Skills Laboratory initiative. These centers, known as ‘Jitume Centers,’ represent a vital component of the government’s mission to provide access to digital skills, e-services, and online opportunities to the nation’s young population.

The Jitume initiative is a collaborative effort involving several ministries, including the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, and the Ministry of Labour. Together with partners like Konza Technopolis, ICT Authority, and TVET Authority, this program is set to empower Kenya’s youth by offering on-the-job training and a pathway to digitally enabled jobs. Moreover, participants will gain access to a diverse array of online courses, each culminating in valuable certifications.

President Ruto’s government has already launched 117 Jitume Centers across various counties, with plans to expand this initiative to all 47 counties. The President envisions that within three to five years, this program will benefit at least one million young Kenyans, significantly alleviating unemployment.

Each Jitume Center is well-equipped with 100 Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) terminals, ensuring broadband connectivity, reliable power supply, rigorous security measures, and dedicated program coordinators provided by Konza Technopolis. Additionally, President Ruto is spearheading the installation of 25,000 free public Wi-Fi hotspots and 1450 digital hubs nationwide to bolster the Kenya Digital Superhighway Project. This transformative endeavor aims to expand the fiber network and enhance e-government services, ushering in a new era of digital connectivity and empowerment for all Kenyan citizens.
