President William Ruto is to leave the country tomorrow, Tuesday, February 6, 2024, for a two-day official visit to Japan. He will be accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto as they work to strengthen diplomatic ties between Kenya and Japan, with a special emphasis on expanding trade and economic partnerships and tackling regional security issues.

During their stay in Japan, the President and First Lady are slated to engage in high-level meetings, including a state call with Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan, who will host a court luncheon in their honor. Additionally, a summit meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is on the agenda.

“The government of Japan sincerely welcomes the visit of the President and Mrs. Ruto and hopes that this visit will further strengthen the friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of Kenya,” a statement issued by the Japanese government read.

President Ruto is also expected to visit Tokyo and Aichi during the trip, with a focus on fostering further development between the two countries’ regional exchange.
