In a move towards bolstering devolution, President William Ruto has today, Monday, March 4, 2024, approved the allocation of Sh454 million for the construction of county headquarters in Isiolo, Lamu, Tana River, Tharaka Nithi, and Nyandarua. This funding injection comes after the President endorses the County Government Additional Allocation Bill, 2023, emphasizing his dedication to supporting local governance.

Governor Issa Timamy of Lamu expressed gratitude, stating, “This allocation marks a pivotal moment in our county’s development journey, providing us with the essential infrastructure needed to enhance service delivery and governance efficiency.”

The allocation aims to address the longstanding issue of inadequate facilities hindering the effective functioning of county administrations since the advent of devolution. Chairman Ali Roba of the Senate Finance Committee emphasized the importance of swift project completion, urging the governors to prioritize the construction efforts while ensuring the necessary funds are disbursed promptly.

With this funding boost, these counties are poised to strengthen their governance structures and better serve their constituents, embodying the ideals of devolution and local empowerment.
