The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has issued a call for proposals inviting companies to take part in a transformative initiative aimed at providing electricity and clean cooking services across 14 counties in Kenya.

This initiative, known as the Kenya Off Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP), is set to receive a substantial financial boost from the World Bank.

“The Kenya Off Grid Solar Access Project is a game-changer for our nation, and we are excited to invite eligible candidates to be part of this historic endeavor,” stated a representative from the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum.

The project, funded by the World Bank, seeks to offer affordable electricity solutions and clean cooking services to Kenyan citizens.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to participate in either the Solar Service Providers Results-Based Financing (SSP RBF) Facility or the Clean Cooking Solution Service Providers Results-Based Financing (CCS RBF) Facility.

“The World Bank’s significant financial support for this project underscores our commitment to achieving universal access to electricity and clean cooking solutions for all Kenyans,” remarked the ministry spokesperson.

This initiative is part of a larger national goal to achieve universal access to electricity by 2026 and clean cooking solutions by 2028. The project will also promote the use of renewable energy sources and provide solar-powered water pumps to ensure sustainable supply in the selected counties.

Interested parties are urged to access application templates and submission instructions online at kosap-fm.or.ke/call-for-proposals-rbf-facilities/.

The project, which commenced in November 2018, is slated to conclude in May 2025 and will involve collaboration with Kenya Power, Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), and the World Bank to ensure stable electricity supply in the designated counties.
