President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua attended the ninth edition of the Kimalel Goat Auction in Baringo today, Thursday, December 14th, 2023.

The two-day celebration, which had been put on hold for two years owing to the Covid-19 outbreak, has returned with the theme ‘Harmony and Heritage,’ promoting unity and variety.

President Ruto announced, “Mambo nimawili… hakuna deni na hakuna cheque. ni cash,” as he led the auction, emphasizing that all payments would be made in cash.

He also stated, “I would purchase 1,000 goats at a price of Ksh.15,000 each together with my deputy.”

The auction saw hundreds of leaders in attendance, including Transport CS Murkomen, MP Oscar Sudi, MPs from Baringo, Governor Cheboi, Belgut MP Nelson Koech, KNCCI President Dr. Eric Ruto, and Senator Cheptumo, purchasing goats ranging between 50 and 150.

The event, which showcases the county’s rich cultural and tourism sites, is not only a celebration of unity and diversity but also aims to bring the community together with the hopes of reducing hostilities.

Governor Benjamin Cheboi had earlier stated that the event would incorporate cultural events and traditional boat road races, showcasing the county’s heritage.

The auction is meant to benefit the local communities and will have a significant economic impact, providing an opportunity for the people of Baringo to generate income and strengthen their local economy.

The purchase of goats worth Ksh.15 million at the auction will have a direct economic benefit for the people of Baringo, as the funds generated will contribute to the local economy and support the community’s livelihoods.
