President William Ruto on Friday 16th February launched the Nyeri Town Blue Valley Affordable Housing project. He was accompanied by Deputy Rigathi Gachagua, Housing Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome, and other Mt Kenya leaders as they marked the beginning of a project set to deliver 320 housing units.
Describing the initiative as a pivotal solution to the nation’s housing crisis, Ruto emphasized its potential to create job opportunities for up to a million individuals annually. The project, a cornerstone of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), not only aims to enhance living standards but also to spur economic growth, fostering entrepreneurship and employment.
With a significant government allocation of Sh35.2 billion in the 2023-24 financial year towards the Housing program, Ruto’s target is to construct 200,000 affordable housing units yearly, generating between 600,000 and one million jobs annually.
Despite recent legal challenges, including a High Court ruling declaring the housing levy unconstitutional, Ruto’s commitment to advancing affordable housing remains steadfast, with ongoing efforts to support construction and job creation across the nation.
