President Ruto recently presided the passing out of a record 2,664 forest rangers. This was the highest number of rangers to join the service in the history of the country.
At the beginning of his presidency, President Ruto made a commitment to protect and restore the country’s forests and rangelands. He has since the set a very good example by not only planting trees all over the country, but he also launched the tree planting exercise at the end of the last year.
President Ruto has also spoken at various global climate summits like the recently ended Africa Climate Summit where he called on African countries to embrace green and clean energy and practices that help reverse the effects of climate change.
The record number of rangers is a testimony of the Kenyans following in the example of the President. New rangers will be fundamental in not only protecting the forests, but they will participate in the Kenya Kwanza’s dream of planting over 15 Billion trees.
President Ruto has urged Kenyans to plant at least 30 trees each year, a call which many Kenyans have happily answered. In the coming short rains, Kenyans have been urged to plant about 500 Million trees.
H.E President Ruto continues to call on to Kenyans and not only does he ask the country repeatedly to plant trees, he is leading by example. He is launching projects that will be a source of green energy such as dams but he is also ensuring there will be no impunity or corruption in the forest service.
The hope is that Kenyans continue to be inspired to make change and continue planting trees. The hope is also that more Kenyans will participate in protecting the forests by either joining the forest service as rangers or by reporting illegal loggings and more.
