President William Ruto has instructed Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba and Defence counterpart Aden Duale to oversee the accelerated completion of the Talanta Sports City within an impressive two-year timeframe.

The directive, given during the groundbreaking ceremony at Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi, highlights the urgency and importance of the stadium, designated as Kenya’s primary venue for the 2027 AFCON tournament.

“I have agreed with the ministries, and that is why the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Defence are also represented here because we want this stadium to be built to world-class standard using military discipline,” Ruto said.

“I will expect our defence team, Aden Duale, the CDF and the team to make sure all the timelines we have agreed are kept by the contractor and I expect that there will be supervision every week, every two weeks and I will be here myself every three months until this facility is completed.”

Emphasizing the significance of timelines, President Ruto instructed the contractors to strictly adhere to the specified schedules for the construction of the world-class facility.

China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) will build the stadium, with supervision from the Kenya Defense Forces.

The cost of the stadium has not been announced, but is believed to be in the billions of Shillings. Similar projects across Africa have consumed upwards of Sh30 billion.
