Environment and Climate Change PS Eng. Festus Ng’eno yesterday hosted a delegation from World Vision Kenya delegation led by Operations Director Ms. Miriam Mbembe.

The PS and his guests discussed various subjects among them World Vision Kenya’s landscape restoration projects in 14 Counties.

The PS said the Government had prioritizes landscape restoration because of its centrality in environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation and improvement of the livelihoods.

Eng. Ng’eno underscored the importance of collaborative interventions between the National Government, Counties and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) noting that the Ministry had adopted the ‘whole-of-society, whole of Government’ approach in the roll out of restoration programs so as to ensure sustainability of the initiatives.

The PS said the Ministry was finalizing the National Landscape and Ecosystem Strategy that will see Counties have tailored plans to enhance their environmental conservation efforts as part of the Government’s flagship 15bn national tree growing program.

In the ongoing short rains, the Ministry hopes to see the goal of about 500,000 Million trees planted in the various counties.

Earlier this week, Eng. Nge’no called on students and their teachers to plant trees equivalent to their ages to complement the presidential 15 billion tree and restoration campaign.
