President William Ruto has commended the significant increase in revenue collection across Kenya, attributing it to the government’s digital transformation of state services. Speaking during the National Taxpayer’s Day event in Mombasa, he highlighted that the digitization of 13,000 government services has resulted in a substantial monthly revenue boost, with collections soaring to Ksh.9 billion, up from Ksh.1.5 billion.

President Ruto emphasized the importance of efficient and courteous service to taxpayers and the public, noting that effective revenue collection need not be unpleasant or demeaning. He expressed his commitment to using government revenues prudently, transparently, and accountably to serve citizens.

Ruto also discussed the implementation of a national digital identity framework, which will aid in collecting essential data for revenue mobilization. He assured maximum transparency and accountability in managing resources and highlighted the government’s commitment to eliminating waste and corruption in public expenditure.

To reinforce this commitment, the Cabinet approved the Public Audit (Amendment) Bill, 2023, to enhance the Auditor-General’s independence, transparency, and fraud investigation capabilities. President Ruto stressed the need to communicate these commitments clearly to the citizens and taxpayers who support national transformation by financing public services and strategic investments.

While acknowledging the room for improvement, Ruto praised the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for enhancing its revenue collection processes and commended taxpayers for their contributions to national development. He credited taxpayers for sustaining economic resilience and supporting local and international obligations, providing services, and investing in economic transformation.

President Ruto encouraged all Kenyans to join the ranks of patriotic citizens who contribute to the country’s development, acknowledging their vital role in advancing the nation’s well-being and sustainable growth.
