The Ministry of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mithika Linturi yesterday morning visited Ngusishi Farm in Meru County where he was happy to witness the diversification of farming activities undertaken by the Kenyan farmers.
The CS witnessed farmers embracing modern farming practices in the farms that have pig, sheep, and chicken, to dairy farming.
The farm exemplified the integration of commercial agriculture techniques, ensuring the well-being and productivity of the livestock.
CS Mithika called on to the Kenyan farmers, stating that it is imperative to replicate such commendable models of animal and crop husbandry across the country’s agricultural landscape.
“By doing so, we will make agriculture more appealing to the youth, providing them with employment opportunities while advancing food security in our nation. This endeavor aligns perfectly with our BETA Agenda, where agriculture serves as an economic stimulus of our development goals,” said Hon. Mithika.
Hon. Mithika also encouraged Kenyans, especially women and youth, to leverage the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Program within the different counties, which focuses on promoting priority value chains.
The National Agriculture Value Chain Development Program is a Community Driven Development Project that that seeks to increase market participation and value addition for targeted small-scale farmers in Kenya who are engaged across 33 counties.
