In a sweeping operation targeting illicit brews and substance abuse, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced the closure of 18,650 unlicensed liquor joints across the country. Additionally, 14 distilleries producing toxic killer brew have been shut down and their production facilities dismantled.

Addressing the media in Homa Bay County, Kindiki commended the County Security and Intelligence Committee for their commendable efforts in combating the menace of illicit alcohol and drugs. He stated, “12,150 unlicensed premises and 6,500 licensed ones operating in violation of proximity regulations to educational institutions have been shut down.”

During a meeting with the Homa Bay CSIC, Kindiki revealed plans to introduce new stringent laws against illicit substances in the upcoming parliamentary session. “New laws to combat illicit drugs and substance abuse will be presented to Parliament next month,” he affirmed.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating illicit liquor manufacturers. He emphasized the need for a rigorous crackdown on drug and substance abuse, reassuring that legitimate liquor sellers will not be affected by the stringent measures.
