Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has called for unity from all state bodies in the fight against corruption in the country.

Speaking in Mombasa today, CS Kindiki termed corruption in the country a ‘threat to democracy’ as he rallied all institutions to work together in eradicating the menace.

The CS cited the recent tiff between Parliament, the Judiciary, and the Executive understating that a conflict among the bodies would hinder service delivery to Kenyans and thus the need to work together for the success of all Kenyan citizens.

“Corruption poses an existential threat to the sustainability and long-term viability of Kenya as a modern, prosperous democracy…all State organs and agencies are joined in the hip and must deliver together or perish separately. Institutional competition and confrontation leads to paralysis in service delivery and collective failure of the Constitution,” he said.

“Success in the fight against corruption requires coordination, collaboration, and consultation among all State organs and arms of Government.”

CS Kindiki reiterated the long-term impact of graft in the country such as hindrance of service delivery to citizens and poor governorship.

Corruption poses an existential threat to the sustainability and long-term viability of Kenya as a modern, prosperous democracy.

“The three arms of Government; Executive, Legislature and Judiciary remain individually and collectively accountable to the people of Kenya, who are a superior authority and wield sovereign power as expressed in the Constitution of Kenya.”

He added: “The three arms of Government must work together to deliver service efficiently and seamlessly.”
