Hon. Mithika Linturi, the Cabinet Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture concluded a three day tour of Meru where he met farmers in various stops, to deliver support to the farming community in the region.
In Tigania West, the Cabinet Secretary delivered a mobile grain dryer to the Meru NCPB depot to assist famers speed up drying of their grains and avoid post-harvest losses. CS Mithika also led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Kibuline drying and storage facility in Tigania West, Meru County.
The new facility will aid in the curbing of post-harvest losses and giving farmers a storage point for their harvests as we work on price stabilization.
He also initiated the construction of a 40,000 bag grain storage facility in Urru,
In an effort to diversify the farming practices in the county, the government has promised to issue sunflower seeds to every farmer in Meru County who purchases the subsidized fertilizer from NCPB depot.
President Ruto’s support to the Meru country farmers was once again more evident by the groundbreaking of the construction of Tiira Miraa Market in Igembe South.
Miraa, a mainstay for many households in the area, will find a centralized hub in this market as the progress in enhancing its value.
The government together with the ministry of agriculture has also set aside 36Million shillings for revitalizing the Miraa Market in Maua town!
In addition to this initiative, CS Mithika distributed fruit tree seedlings to promote crop diversification in the region.
On the last day of his tour, CS Mithika distributed 500 straws of Friesian Sexed Semen, 5000 Miraa seedlings, 1000 Macadamia Seedlings, and certified seedlings including 16.35 MT Sunflower, 200 Kg Maize Seeds, and 100 Kg Beans .
This is clear evidence of the government’s robust effort to elevate quality and production for dairy and crop farmers.
