Sports CS Ababu Namwamba on Friday presided over the installation into office of the Kenya Youth Organization leadership at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi. The CS was flanked by the secretary Youth Development Mr. Raymond Ochieng.

The organization that is focused on bringing together young people across the country and giving them a common voice is led by Mr Joseph Njuguna as the president.

CS Hon Ababu, in his key note address to the delegation drawn from across the country, expressed his gratitude to the leadership for what he termed as a bold step in taking responsibility.

“I feel your readiness in taking responsibility to be the ignition of the change we want to see. I have keenly looked into what you have done across the country, including supporting H.E. President William Ruto’s agenda of planting 15 billion trees in the next ten years and I have told myself this is it,” remarked the Cabinet Secretary.

CS Ababu reaffirmed that the Kenya Kwanza Government had anchored its developmental agenda on the aspect of inclusivity and that the Government was intentional, deliberate and structured on having everyone included in driving Kenya into the next level, assuring the youth of structured plans to deal with the problem of unemployment affecting the young people in Kenya.

“The number one challenge of our youth today is the ability to earn a respectable and sustainable living, and this ministry is making plans to ensure our young people earn a good living.

We have just finalized on putting up an agenda that will take care of the welfare of our young people and today I want to take this opportunity to invite Kenya’s good young people to take advantage of our flagship #TalantaHela initiative.”

He added that through #TalantaHela, gems in sports and the creative arts had been unearthed as witnessed in the ongoing CECAFA U-18 championships in KisumuKakamega Counties.

“What you are witnessing right now in Kisumu and Kakamega counties from our U-18 boys is a true manifestation of #TalantaHela. The team that is entertaining Kenya with the best display of football is as a result of a deliberate, intentional, and structured scouting network.”

CS Hon Ababu Namwamba challenged the youth not accept to be put down on account of age or experience.

“Do not accept to be put down on account of age and experience. If you are good enough, you are old enough. Seize this moment because the future is now.”

Youth Secretary Raymond Ochieng thanked the CS for prioritizing the youth affairs, noting that his was a commitment to see the transformation of the livelihoods for the Kenyan youth.

“As you’ve always put it, your mantra of For Youth, By Youth and Of Youth is a clear testament of the place of the youth agenda in your Ministry. I’m convinced that with your continued support, Kenya will reap dividends from this cohort,” said Raymond Ochieng.

The CS used the occasion to rally the Kenyan Youth Organization behind the upcoming #YouthConnektAfricaSummit2023, a platform that will bring together over 20,000 Young people from across Africa to Nairobi, to share ideas and interact with each other.

“We want to involve you in all activities we do, and I want you to allow me to adopt the Kenya Youth Organization as an Ignition in the 1 million Youth Green Army.”

Kenya Youth Organization president Mr Joseph Njuguna expressed his delight at the support the organization had received from the CS, revealing that the Cabinet Secretary had stood with the organization at their lowest and difficult moment.
