The government has announced that it will not intervene in the planned land evictions in Njiru, urging direct engagement between settlers and the Kirima family, recognized as the legitimate landowners. Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Alice Wahome, confirmed the legal ownership of LR no 6825/2, measuring 472.5 acres, and LR No. 5908/8, spanning 507 acres, by the Kirima family. These properties were transferred to the Kirima family in 1967 and 1972, respectively.

Wahome emphasized that the land has been under court dispute, with a possession deadline set for December 31st, and stressed that the government has no jurisdiction over the matter. She also revealed that the land was mortgaged to National and Grindlays Bank in 1969 and a new grant (IR 98744) was issued to the Kirima family in 2003 for LR No. 5908/8, with a renewed 99-year term.

In a public caution, Wahome warned against dealing with individuals claiming ownership of the land and urged direct engagement with the Kirima family to avoid potential scams and financial losses. She highlighted the potential traps set by those falsely claiming ownership of the land.
