The first batch of assorted security equipment is set to be handed over to the government in a week as part of the ambitious 5-year, 37 billion shillings modernization program.

The Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has disclosed that the first batch includes personal protective gear for security agents.

Speaking in Lamu during engagements with frontline officers at Salama Camp, Kindiki emphasized the government’s commitment to continually evaluating covert and overt strategies to sustain efforts against terrorism and other national security threats.

“We must neutralize and dominate the enemy from all angles and ensure that our country is safe, and our people are able to work, live, and invest in peace and without any fear,” Kindiki said.

He announced that the second phase of modernized equipment, including drones and other advanced surveillance technologies, is scheduled to arrive within two months.

CS Kindiki also disclosed that the third batch, expected later this year, will feature gunship helicopters and other aerial mobility assets.

Addressing security concerns in Lamu, Kindiki assured residents of the government’s commitment to resolving any grievances peacefully and in compliance with the law.

“All grievances in Lamu County will be addressed and resolved, but peacefully and in accordance with the law,” he said.

However, Kindiki issued a stern warning against exploiting such grievances to stoke ethnic or religious tensions, emphasizing that the government will not tolerate actions that promote discord.

Kindiki reiterated that security operations should remain apolitical, stressing that politicization could endanger citizens’ safety.

He called on the security agents to execute their mandate without fear or favour.
