President Ruto has promised Kenyans that his government will increase the accessibility of clean drinking water as well as the construction of dams and irrigation projects aimed at increasing the country’s agricultural activity.

Water is essential for domestic and commercial use. For agricultural growth, for infrastructure development, for health, and much more. Under President Ruto, the water sector has improved and grown in several monumental sectors to the benefit of Kenyans.

In the past one year, about 100 dams and water pans have been constructed.

The Ministry of Water has also launched about 20 irrigation projects.

These projects spread across the country, are aimed at serving over 1.4 Million Kenyans on completion. They will serve a total of 12,587 acres of land. This will aid significantly in the Kenya Kwanza government’s plan to improve the country’s food security.

President Ruto’s government has increased area under irrigation by 7%, 47,933, from 664,000 in 2022 to 711,933 acres in 2023. The Ministry has committed to increase this by 60,000 acres in 2024.

Paddy rice production increased by 42,000 metric tons, a 22% growth, from 192,299 to 234,000 Metric in 2023. The Ministry is committed to increasing the irrigated rice production to 304,000/- thereby decreasing the amount of imported rice by 10%.
