Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria says the government will now be paying artists through eCitizen.

Kuria revealed that the government is spearheading amendments to the Copyright Act to create a government-run Collective Management Organization (CMO).

“All music, copyrights and royalties will be paid through E-Citizen. Our artists will be individually registered. They can view online how much money is collected. Siku 40 za wezi wa jasho ya artists zimeisha,” he added.

Organizationresponsible for the collection of Copyright royalties and payment are the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK), the Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) and the Kenya Association of Music Producers (KAMP)

The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) on January 25, released Sh 20 million in royalty payments to local musicians.

MCSK Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ezekiel Mutua confirmed earlier that the payments for the first quarter of 2024, adding that more will be released in the year.
