Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday revealed that he has been receiving text messages from undisclosed friends, urging him to ease off on the government’s crackdown on the illicit liquor trade.

Speaking at Nyeri Polytechnic where he presided over the institution’s graduation ceremony, DP Gachagua firmly dismissed the persuasion attempts, emphasizing his commitment to eradicating killer brews, regardless of personal connections, during a speech at Nyeri Polytechnic’s graduation ceremony.

”I have seen a few of my friends sending me texts asking me to allow them to sell illicit alcohol. I am sorry, I am unable to honor that friendship,” DP Gachagua said.

DP Gachagua highlighted the positive outcomes of the crackdown, citing feedback from women indicating improved family cohesion as men return home early, reflecting the success of government efforts.

Alongside the liquor crackdown, Gachagua reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting technical education institutions, encouraging graduates to contribute to national development through skills-based sectors like affordable housing, amidst challenging economic conditions.
