To enhance security in regions vulnerable to terrorism, the government has acquired new mobility equipment for security officers. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced the deployment of armored personnel carriers and mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles to officers in Wajir, Mandera, Garissa Counties, and other at-risk areas, starting next week.
During the operationalization of Eldas South Sub County in Wajir, Kindiki emphasized, “The equipment will ensure safety and security of the North Eastern, Upper Eastern, and Upper Coastal Region.” He reiterated the government’s commitment under the Kenya Kwanza administration to secure every part of the country and combat illicit activities like contraband trade, narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, banditry, and livestock rustling.
Kindiki revealed plans to operationalize all gazette Sub-Counties in Wajir and other regions within the current financial year, aiming to improve access to government services. Additionally, the government will recruit and train more National Police Reservists (NPRs) from next month to bolster the efforts of security officers in Wajir County against terror financiers and orchestrators.
