The government is on the verge of striking a final agreement with doctors who have been on strike nationwide for over a month.

Despite facing threats from the National and County Governments, the doctors’ strike has persisted, causing widespread disruption in public hospitals.

Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has provided a glimmer of hope, stating, “The situation is going to be put under control. If not tomorrow, in the next few days we are going to reach an agreement.” Nakhumicha emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the ongoing crisis effectively.

Efforts are underway to ensure that both the doctors and the government are satisfied with the final deal. Nakhumicha urged the doctors to consider the government’s proposals and provide their own input, stating, “I want to remind the doctors that we serve a common patient and ask them to come to the table and consider what the government has offered and provide a counteroffer.”

While not all demands of the striking doctors can be met, Nakhumicha stressed the urgent need to implement the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) to address resource shortages in the healthcare sector. The ongoing negotiations aim to provide a way forward for all stakeholders involved.
