The Ministries of Tourism and Gender have announced that Kenyans will be granted free access to National Parks, Museums and Monuments on Tuesday the 12th of December, as the country celebrates 60 years of independence.

“In commemorating our 60th year of independence, the Government proudly announces free entry for Kenyan citizens to all national parks and museums on Jamhuri Day, December 12, 2023. This initiative aligns with our collective pride in being Kenyan and our desire for everyone to relish the gifts bestowed upon us by nature,” said the statement by the Ministry of Tourism.

Hon. Mutua, the CS to the Ministry of Tourism, encouraged Kenyans to pack a picnic basket and enjoy the day in any of the many parks around the country on the Jamhuri day. Marine Parks, Safari Walks and Animal Orphanages, are also covered in the directive.

The free access will run from 6AM to 6PM.

Kenya boasts breathtaking landscapes, from vast savannahs to pristine beaches and majestic mountains, showcasing the country’s unparalleled beauty. The rich flora and fauna stand as a testament to the country’s national pride and conservation efforts, inviting visitors to revel in these natural wonders.

Proof of identification will be required for Kenyan citizens, with children accompanying parents or guardians who possess identification proof.

Should a facility reach full capacity, the government and KWS has urged Kenyans to be patient to allow departing visitors to create space for others.

Compliance with the parks’ staff’s guidance at entry points and within the premises will be greatly appreciated.

Hon. Mutua extended a call to Governors overseeing county governments managing national reserves to consider a similar waiver, enabling all Kenyan citizens to revel and enjoy in shared heritage.
