The dairy, meat, and leather have been severally mentioned by the Kenya Kwanza government’s priority value chains under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
To satisfy the growing demand for dairy, leather, and red meat, the government has therefore committed to helping Kenyan farmers produce what the market needs.
PS Jonathan Mueke earlier this week received a brief from the team tasked with developing a sustainable animal health and breeding delivery model.
He also met with Kajiado Count Leadership where he revealed that President Ruto’s government is in the process of implementing a vaccination exercise in 20 counties, including Kajiado.
The Ministry of Agriculture CS Hon. Mithika also led a high-level forum on feed and fodder policy and the continental launch of the Resilient African Feed and Fodder Systems Project (RAFFS) in Kenya.
With the livestock subsector contributing 12% to Kenya’s GDP, the development and growth of the sector hold a pivotal role in the BETA agenda. The current government is prioritizing investments in innovative, commercially oriented agriculture.
Key focus areas within the livestock industry include feed production, value addition, and mechanization, as well as the digitization of the sector through initiatives like the Livestock Identification and Traceability System (LITS).

In a further show of the government’s goal of bettering the livestock sector, CS Mithika has issued 100,000 doses of livestock vaccines as he concluded his tour in Makueni over the past week.
