In a move to enhance the quality of education in the country, the National Government has announced the establishment of two new educational institutions dedicated to training teachers, managers, and administrators in basic education. The initiative, outlined in the transformative Basic Education Bill of 2024, aims to revolutionize the education sector by setting up the Kenya Teacher Training College and the Kenya School of Teacher Education and Management.

Minister of Education, Dr. Ezekiel Machogu, expressed the government’s commitment to excellence in education, stating, “These colleges will serve as pillars of innovation and professionalism in shaping the future of our education system.”

The Kenya Teacher Training College will focus on providing comprehensive pre-service teacher education, research, and consultancy services, in collaboration with key stakeholders. The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development will play a crucial role in developing programs and curricula for the college, ensuring a holistic approach to teacher training.

Furthermore, the Kenya School of Teacher and Education Management will cater to education managers and administrators, offering capacity-building programs to enhance their skills and expertise. Machogu, emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant government agencies in developing and evaluating these programs, highlighting the government’s dedication to fostering a culture of continuous learning and development in the education sector.
