The High Court has lifted the injunction preventing the government from printing Digital IDs or the Maisha Namba, paving the way for President Ruto’s administration to implement the government’s Digital ID ecosystem.

This move is part of broader reforms aimed at enhancing the registration process for individuals through unique identifiable numbers.

The suspension, in place since last year, resulted in a backlog of ID applications, impacting hundreds of thousands of Kenyans awaiting IDs or replacements.

The Friday court decision provides much-needed relief to the government, allowing it to move forward with issuing third-generation IDs, Maisha Namba, and Digital IDs.
