The Ministry of Interior and National Administration will immediately resume the issuance of new generation National Identity Card also known as Maisha Card.

Immigration PS Julius Bitok announced on Friday following the lifting of High Court orders issued on December 5th, 2023 that barred the State from issuing the new cards.

Bitok said the court decision is a reprieve to over 600,000 Kenyans whose applications for new and duplicate ID cards could not be processed due to the order.

The PS assured all Kenyans with pending applications that the government will expeditiously produce IDs on a first-in-first-out basis beginning immediately.

“We commit to continue implementing reforms to the Kenya National Identity ecosystem in a manner that respects the Constitution and our laws and in respect to the rights and the interests of all citizens and clients of Government services,” said Bitok.
