Cabinet Secretary Chelugui has announced Kenya’s strategic intention to dominate the global superfoods market, projecting a staggering revenue of Ksh22.5 trillion (USD 171.8 billion).

Speaking today Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Kakuzi PLC Orchards and Packhouse in Murang’a County, Chelugui highlighted the country’s exceptional performance in avocado, macadamia, and blueberry production, setting sights on claiming the top spot in avocado exports worldwide.

“We are already excelling in producing superfoods like Avocado, Macadamia, and Blueberries. Kenya is poised to become the leading avocado exporter globally,” Chelugui stated. He underscored the importance of sustainable agricultural reforms and collaboration with cooperatives and MSMEs to enhance market access for Kenyan farmers.

Kakuzi’s Managing Director, Chris Flowers, echoed the sentiment, expressing the company’s commitment to upholding quality standards and responsible farming practices. “At Kakuzi, we export products of the highest quality with impeccable traceability credentials,” Flowers affirmed.

Recent data revealed Kenya’s success in exporting avocados worth Ksh15 billion to various countries, with macadamia farmers earning Ksh500 per kilogram and eyeing expansion into new markets. Blueberry farming, initiated in 2022, further solidifies Kenya’s position as a key player in the global superfoods arena.

This strategic move aligns with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, aiming to propel Kenya to the forefront of the superfoods industry.
