Kenya Railways has said that it would complete the Standard Gauge Railway to Meter Gauge Railway (SGR-MGR) connection project in Mombasa by May 31. “The entire Link line is 17 kilometers.”
This transformative project includes the construction of new MGR passenger stations at key locations such as Mombasa Terminus, Miritini, Changamwe West, Changamwe East, Shimanzi, and Mombasa Central Station.
The new railroad line between Mombasa CBD and Mombasa Terminus will soon offer commuter train services for residents of Miritini, Changamwe, and neighboring areas.
Passengers utilizing the Madaraka Express Passenger Service will now travel seamlessly by rail from the Old Mombasa station in Miritini to Mombasa Terminus via Mijikenda Road.
The project route encompasses the construction of a 2.772km Meter Gauge Railway link from Mombasa SGR Terminus to the newly built Miritini MGR passenger station, along with essential infrastructure like a pedestrian bridge, locomotive turntable, and a 480m railway bridge across the Makupa Causeway.
