Ministry of Health, recognizing the urgent need to take action against the growing threat of alcohol and drug abuse in the country, has made an unwavering commitment to taking stringent measures to end the detrimental problem.

Speaking in the coastal region today, while accompanying the DP, Health CS Hon. Nakhumicha has said that her Ministry remains committed to the fight and are willing to collaborate with all the necessary stakeholders in the fight against illicit brews and drug abuse.

“Drug and alcohol abuse not only strains our healthcare system but also results in severe societal consequences,” stated CS Nakhumicha during the Coast Region Alcohol and Drug Abuse Conference presided over by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua today.

“From teenage pregnancy to sexual and gender-based violations and the spread of HIV/AIDS, the repercussions are devastating.” With last year’s allocation of a staggering 75 billion for HIV/AIDS management reflecting the severity of the situation, urgent action is imperative.

The CS has urged law enforcements to closely collaborate with the agency bodies such as Pharmacy and Poisons Board ensuring that pharmaceutical premises non-compliant with regulations remain closed.

Community health promoters will be mobilized to identify individuals struggling with substance abuse, enabling targeted interventions.
