In a move to accommodate the growing number of business class travelers, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has announced plans to establish a dedicated terminal for high-end travelers.
Selina Gor, the airport’s general manager, revealed in an exclusive interview with the Star that the new terminal will cater to VIPs, including chief executive officers of global corporations with significant business interests in Kenya and the region.
“We are looking at creating a terminal specifically for high-end guests coming to Kenya and traveling on a charter,” Gor stated.
The airport, which currently serves at least 47 airlines connecting over 100 destinations worldwide, plans to add three more luxury lounges to meet the demands of its clientele accustomed to a certain level of luxury.
Furthermore, there are plans to dedicate another floor solely to lounges for premium clientele, in response to requests from leading airlines such as Emirates and Qatar for dedicated lounge areas.
Henry Ogoye, the Kenya Airports Authority’s Acting Managing Director, emphasized the significance of this move, stating, “This collaboration signifies our ongoing efforts to elevate the quality of airport services in the region. We are confident that this lounge will significantly improve the overall airport experience for travelers.”
The airport has already quadrupled its capacity to host 26.5 million passengers annually, reflecting its commitment to providing high-quality services to a diverse range of travelers.
The addition of The Plaza Premium Lounge marks a significant expansion for the Plaza Premium Group, enhancing its presence in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.
