The Youth Affairs Ministry Cabinet Secretary Hon. Ababu Namwamba has reiterated the Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment to nurturing the country’s sporting talent, announcing that the government is keen on upgrading the country’s sporting infrastructure.
President Ruto’s government is dedicated to supporting the talent through deliberate, intentional and structured grassroots development.
Through the Talanta Hela Initiative, CS Abadu notes that the government is keen on taping into the structures for grassroots football development and the well laid out infrastructure for talent identification.
The government seeks to grow talents from the grassroots, nurture and monetize them.
Speaking to the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture regarding Kenya’s preparedness in the co-hosting of AFCON’27 with Uganda and Tanzania, CS Namwamba revealed that the government is upgrading the sporting infrastructure to match the international standards in readiness.
“We are upgrading our sporting infrastructure to International standards as part of our master plan to co-host the AFCON’27 with Uganda and Tanzania,” – stated the CS.
The CS also conveyed the government’s intention to fully support the national team, Harambee Stars, to enable them to participate and compete to best of the team’s abilities.
“The target to prepare Harambee Stars is critical, Youth Development is not negotiable and we have made it clear to FKF in readiness to host AFCON’27, we need to get back to the grassroots and ensure we grow Sports in a manner that will bring economic values to our country,” CS Namwamba told the committee.
