President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to school administrators, instructing them to allow students to continue their studies regardless of their tuition payment status. Ruto emphasized that the government has already disbursed funds for education, deeming it “immoral” for school heads to persist in pressuring parents and students over unpaid fees.

“We released Sh62 billion in January to educate our learners. But even after this development there are school heads telling parents to pay school fees because the government has not released money for schools,” Ruto stated.

“We know the importance of education and we want all our children to go to school. Managers of institutions should stop taking advantage of the vulnerability of our people to force parents to pay school fees under the pretext that the government has not released money.”

The President made these remarks on Sunday, January 21, 2024 during his visit to Machakusi Primary School for an interdenominational prayer meeting at Machakusi ACK church in Teso South constituency, Busia.

During his visit, Ruto assured the public that the Ministry of Education would be closely monitoring school operations to ensure that all students are able to remain in school, regardless of their financial situation.
