Environment and Climate Change PS Eng. Festus Ng’eno this afternoon co-chaired the UNEA-6 inter-ministerial meeting with Foreign Affairs counterpart Dr. Korir Sing’oei at the Office the Prime Cabinet Secretary Boardroom in Nairobi.

During a multi-sectoral meeting co-chaired by Dr. Chris Kiptoo, National Treasury PS, and Ms. Mariatu Kamara, Country Director, International Fund for Agricultural Development in Kenya, for the GOK/IFAD Integrated Natural Resources Management Program Design Mission, Treasury PS  emphasized the need for collaboration among various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to comprehensively and cohesively achieve the program’s objectives.

On his part, Environment and Climate Change PS Eng. Festus Ng’eno highlighted the initiative’s alignment with Kenya’s 10-year National Landscapes and Ecosystem Restoration Program.

PS Ng’eno announced that Program will be launched next month during the 6th Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) meeting scheduled to take place at the United Nations Complex in Nairobi from February 26th to March 1st, 2024.

Eng. Ng’eno underscored that collaboration with development partners enables Government to leverage additional resources and expertise, enhance capacity to address environmental challenges effectively and achieve sustainable development goals.

Facilitating effective program coordination between national and county governments, in collaboration with development partners, entails establishing transparent communication, resource sharing, and aligning strategies to ensure successful and sustainable implementation.

The meeting was attended by State Department of Livestock Development PS Jonathan Mueke, PS Crops Development Dr. Paul Rono, PS Irrigation Mr. Ephantus Kimotho, PS Blue Economy Ms. Betsy Njagi, among other senior government officials and development partners.
