President William Ruto’s recent state visits to West African nations have been marked by a series of prestigious honours and a renewed commitment to fostering unity and transformation across the African continent.

On Friday, April 5, the Kenyan leader was bestowed with the ‘Medalha Amílcar Cabral,’ Guinea-Bissau’s highest recognition, during his visit to the West African State.

This esteemed medal is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and courage in their respective fields. Expressing his profound gratitude for the honour, President Ruto pledged to continue working towards the unity and transformation of Africa.

“Together, we will continue to work towards the unity and transformation of Africa,” he stated, underscoring his dedication to strengthening bilateral relations and collaboration between Kenya and Guinea-Bissau across various sectors.

During his visit to Guinea-Bissau, President Ruto emphasized the importance of bolstering economic ties between the two nations.

The Amilcar Cabral Medal follows another notable recognition received by President Ruto the previous day when Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo conferred upon him the Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta.

President Akufo-Addo commended Ruto as a shining example of a new generation of African leaders, acknowledging his commitment to providing exemplary guidance to the people of Kenya.

“Under your leadership, Kenya has become a shining beacon of a nation governed by the rule of law,” President Akufo-Addo said.

He noted that trade and investment levels between Kenya and Guinea-Bissau are currently low, highlighting the potential for growth through the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.

President Ruto’s diplomatic efforts extend beyond strengthening bilateral relationships. He has been actively engaging with African leaders, aiming to boost the continent’s overall economic development.

After signing seven Memoranda of Understanding with President Akufo-Addo in Ghana, Ruto highlighted the significance of these agreements in fostering warm and friendly collaboration rooted in a long-standing history.
