President William Ruto is in Germany to explore employment opportunities for Kenyan citizens in the European nation.

Rutos Germany trip was prompted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Kenya in May, during which Scholz unveiled plans to welcome 250,000 Kenyan professionals, skilled laborers, and semi-skilled workers to address Germany’s significant labor needs.

In a press release dated Sunday, November 19, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said the trip is focused on bolstering economic ties with the two countries and the European Union.

“The President will showcase Kenya as a leading investment destination in the region, make a case for strengthening economic ties between the EU and the East African Community, advance discussions on Labor Mobility with Germany, and consolidate Germany-Kenya cooperation on Green Energy initiatives, including in the production of green hydrogen and rehabilitation of Olkaria geothermal fields and grid stabilisation,” said Hussein in a statement.

While in Berlin, Germany, the president will also meet other leaders at the Compact with Africa (CwA) high-level conference.

The CwA summit in Germany aims to strengthen private investment and cooperation, especially in the realm of sustainable energy supply, and discuss enhancing mutual economic relationships and joint projects between Germany and African nations.
