President William Ruto has announced that the government will now cover health insurance costs for citizens facing financial hardship. He made the declaration today Friday, March 8, 2024 while Speaking in Embu County during the celebration of International Women’s Day.

“We are taking a significant step towards ensuring healthcare is accessible to every individual in our nation,” President Ruto proclaimed. “Those who previously paid five hundred shillings for insurance will now only need to pay three hundred shillings.”

Under this new initiative, the government will extend healthcare services through community health promoters, guaranteeing access to affordable insurance for all citizens. Additionally, a special chronic illness fund has been established to support individuals battling diseases like cancer and diabetes, preventing them from resorting to selling assets for treatment.

President Ruto emphasized the importance of these measures in improving healthcare accessibility, particularly for women. “These initiatives will revolutionize healthcare in Kenya, granting every citizen the right to quality medical care,” he affirmed.
